Marshmallow Challenge
In this engaging introduction activity (from the Science Learning Hub), students work on teambuilding skills to:
- Design and construct a freestanding tower
- Execute collaboration/teamwork skills
- Analyze key challenges and benefits of working in a team
- Analyze key steps and behaviors required to successfully complete the challenge
Additions for Ecology:
- Reflect and evaluate what future changes could lead to more successful completion next time
- Discuss the interconnectedness of things in an ecosystem
- Examine our views of ecological/social responsibility
- Relate our teamwork in tower building to designing and implementing solutions to current and future ecological crises

Recycling Today for a Better Tomorrow
Several years ago with the help of our Curriculum and Instruction Director, myself and my students wrote and received a grant to enhance our school's recycling program. Since then, not only have my students participated in community clean-up and work days, they have been paramount in our school-wide recycling program.
